Default Media Corp Worldwide - Slick Ripoff Artists

I'm posting this to let others know (and to warn them) about Media Corp Worldwide (Overland Park, KS) and why I feel my company was snookered to the tune of $8,000.00. Media Corp Worldwide contacted me last Spring, trying to sell me on the idea of doing 50 TV commercials for my product. I was excited and had always thought about doing some TV or even an infomercial. They said the commericials would air on a cable network like HGTV in a "medium" sized market (such as st. Louis). We manufacture a gardening product and so HGTV seeemed to be a perfect match. We signed up for their joint marketing program and they made a 1 minute commericial. 50 commericals then aired and in the end we didn't get a single sale of our product. Ok, so some of you may be reading this and thinking "so what." Well, after the commercials all aired, I was angry and dissappointed. Media Corp Worldwide called me and also said they were "very surprised by the poor result". Their rep then tried to get another $5,000.00 out of me by saying that, "I think your product just needs more exposure - we need to run more spots". I quickly said "NO"!!!!
I feel I was misled and even ripped off because i have talked to other people who had the same experience -- no sales after all commercials aired. I found several postings on forums such as this one regarding Media Corp Worldwide. My gut feeling? They know that 50 commercials has almost no impact in the world of tv advertising and they can probably make the commercial for very cheap with today's video editing software that's available.
Anyone else deal with Media Corp Worldwide and if so, what was your experiences?

In my opinion, if they did what they promised they would do, then that's what you paid for. Did you sign a contract? Hopefully you did. They will probably claim that the result of the commercials is not their responsability. Did they in fact air the commericals and do they have proof of this? They have to have some proof. And with 50 commericals, you should have got at least tome type of response.

We did sign a contract. The problem is they are selling something that they know doesn't work, and that my friend is a ripoff. Yeah yeah, I know let the buyer beware and all that. We got screwed and have no recourse cause it's our own fault since we didn't get more info on their racket errrr "company" before we signed up.
Came across this yesterday on Google Groups:
http://groups.google.com/
search with using keywords "media corp worldwide" and it will show many other similar & disappointing results.
It's like selling a super long shot stock to a young, inexperienced investor and not making it clear from the get go that this is a LONG SHOT STOCK ---- this is not nec. illegal but very unethical.

Something is obviously going on if that many people are not getting results. Are the based in the USA? I'd file a complaint with the BBB.org. Also, whenever spending alot of money on anything for your business, I'd stick to a local company if you could . Sorry you got taken for a ride I hope it turns out well.

Honestly, they don't have any control over the results of the ad. If they did 50 commercials for you then they did their part. You should've researched before you signed the deal. Just my opinion....

50 commercials and no responce?

Perhaps it has more to do w/ your product than your advertising campaign?

Advertising is a long shot stock, I see no ethical dilema at all. However had they said sure, we will bring you 100 more customers, a problem exists. Otoh, if all they said was we'll create some content, air it 50 times for X price, no ethical issues at all imho. They did what they said.

It should be obvious to all that one doesn't succeed in media advertising overnight. It takes iteration, repitition, targeting, stats, and a ton of work, time, and money. To not understand this from a business standpoint, would not be unlike those who believe you can create a web site, and have people ordering product from it overnight making you a millionaire while you sleep. It's not going to happen, well maybe in the early days for a very few, but as a rule not without a lot of SEO, advertising, work, time, and money.

Then again, in fairness, there are those companies that do prey on people outside of their area of expertise. Some of it no doubt is intentional, in other cases, one just gets used to the fact that everyone knows, so its never discussed or brought up, and then inocent folks suffer despite the best intentions on both parties.

What makes me wonder is their surprise at the lack of response.... It seems fishy to me.... first pass of 50 with a super low budget, on the first content iteration, no focus group testing, no demographics or stats data.... no surprise here at all.

I'd get together with a score guy, you might find one who used to be in the tv advertising business through email counseling. Then at least you can get some good education as well as what you need to do, and what not to do. They might be able to rework your content, or give you some good pointers as to appropriate targeting demographics.

As any FYI, one of my old colleh alumni used to work with a division of CBS that handled advertising. As far as content creation goes, 50 times what you paid was not out of line for 60 second audio only. (Yes, I fell on the floor too) Its not the equipment or studio time one is paying for. Its the people behind the equipment and their finely honed skill sets that make the difference.
