your question is quite common but its important too. It is good step to decide to do online business. in today’s age there is lots of people doing this and earning money, including me. so its not too hard to earn money but in other side it is not so easy too.

i would like to suggest following step to setup online business.

1. Find out a product or subject about which you know very much.
2. Set up a simple website.
3. Do some optimization
4. Do some marketing on net.

Apart from there i would like to suggest- target search engine visitor. That traffic will be totally targeted and you can do this by search engine optimization after that start search engine marketing too, so you can get better visibility in search engine listing. Both search engine optimization and search engine marketing are important.
