The liberals arent the great economic managers they would have you believe. A lot of Australia's current prosperity can be attributed to changes in the Hawke/Keating years, and international factors beyond Howard et. al's control. No, perhaps Howard is such a great economic manager that he managed to get the economy growing two years before he became Prime Minister...
Economies tend to work themselves out, what the liberals are slightly better at is doing sod all (which is often the best thing for a politician to do).
Still, you're right, switching parties ever couple of cycles tends to reduce the arrogance and contempt for the Australian citizenry that characterises the Howard government.
