Default Starting up a coffee house

Hello Everybody,

Until recently i beleive it was very difficult to manage and maintain a coffee shop. I was under the impression that there was a lot of equipment required in doing so and was very costly.

However i recently noticed that coffee shops really do not require a lot of equipment to make the drinks they offer.

Infact i have seen coffee shops operate with just 2 machines and they can manage to come up with a decent line of products ranging from hot coffess to ice teas, to slush, to smoothies.

Now i am actually considering putting up a coffee house and becoming a part of this industry.

What i need help with is Knowledge. Id like to know what kind of equipments are used, how much they cost and what sort of maintenance do they require.

Anyone here run a coffee house with a limted range of drinks and snacks??

any ideas would be appreciated.

If you have any website links i could go thru or so pls share them with me.

Looking forward to ALL your thoughts and opinions. If you think the idea is risky or has its cons, pls share them with me as i need a realistic picture. not invest a handsome chunk and come out a bankrupt entrepreneur.

Thanks a lot for taking time to read this, i really do appreciate it

Go to work in one for 6 months to a year and you'll get all the FREE training, experience and knowledge you will need to start your own - and they will even PAY you to learn it all - amazing.

Better still, get a job managing a coffee shop and you'll learn exactly how to run one.

yes i also had the idea once about opening a coffee house and done alot of research but the first thing you should do if work in a top cafe first like starbucks or caffe nero.
you need to be a good barista first or have well experienced staff before you open one.
when you first join caffe nero they give you a one week inductory programme, i think you should do that and then start the job for 2 months and once your happy with running a cafe start your own.

It is funny but we were talking about the same idea with a friend of mine just yesterday. Would like to open a coffee house with a new concept where it is slightly authentic with Turkish flavors, but still serves the popular stuff as well. Would also like to have a small shop inside of it where you sell the coffee as well as unique Turkish items similar to what we sell online right now as well as larger items.

I would like to know the cost of operating a small one myself...to see how big I am dreaming
