It is not a scam. They are a legitimate company with low priced goods and excellent shipping. Since hooking up with them a couple of years ago I have spent over $80,000 with them, both for merchandise for a mall location and for dropshipped goods. Their turnaround time on orders is 2 business days and they ship in the high 90% range.
They do have a tendency to pitch a everybody get's rich idea, that does not hold true. Many do not make it. Like anything else, the 80 / 20 rule comes into play and amny fall by the wayside. Frankly, the websites they try to sell to memebers are way overpriced. But, if you have any sales experience and can sell on your own, or have ecommerce website experience and know how to attract customers to your site, you can make some money with them.
I sell a lot of eagles to military organizations. I've sold $ 1,000 order to other organizations, like United Way groups as awards. In 2003 I sold 30+ birdhouses to the Smithsonian Institution for decorations on their National Christmas Tree. And I regularly sell small orders to individuals and several hundred dollar orders to retailers.

So, is it a scam? No! Can you make any money with them? That's up to you. I do.
Do not think you will do anything on ebay with SMC. It is over-run with sellers, none of whom do much. If you sell on the net, you have to develop your own traffic, not depend on ebay. Frankly, it's out there everywhere, but I still sell it daily. In my mall location I often add a buck, or two, to their suggested retail and still sell it on a regular basis.
Here's my site, if you want to check it out.

I haven't worked with them personally, but I knew somebody that did and I worked with her and sold merchandise also making money. It wasn't really going anywhere for me, so I stopped. At the same time, I wasn't exactly trying hard and was able to get a few sales.
You can have things dropshipped to you if you want to keep an inventory, just order a bunch of stuff. You're paying the wholesale prices and can sell at retail or more. If you're going to sell on eBay, you won't make it selling at retail... even below retail can be troublesome.
I'm not sure whether they ship to Canada. Your best bet is to call and see if it can be arranged. It's going to cost you a lot in shipping though, plus you'll be paying tax on the imports. As long as you sell them in Canada, your fine, I wouldn't sell them to people in the United States (as it'll be taxed yet again!)

They ship to Canada, no problem. You can buy for a flea market setup, or to wholesale to stores.
They do not dropship to Canada. All goods must go to you, but you can re-ship. Makes shipping high, but that's how it is.
The problem seems to be with Customs. For one thing, the declared value would be your cost, let's say $ 10, not what you sell it for, maybe $ 25. So, if nothing else, your customer would know your cost.
SMC recently did say on their members only forum that their plate was full with a couple of projects this year, but they did have Canada on their "to do" list for 2006. Exactly what, I have no idea.
You can sell their stuff at flea markets, many do. You can also sell from the catalog at your place of work, at salons, home parties, etc.
Just don't think you'll be competing with Donald Trump anytime soon.

Three legitimate sites in three years doesn't seem very promising.
